Based on the Grade your article will be ranked on SERP pages.

PBN Indexing: PBN means Private Blog Networks and those sites that have a huge number of backlinks from this network will now be de-indexed.

Google FRED: Targeting sites that were likely a truck loaded with tons of just affiliate links and gives no value to users. This update was launched recently in Mar 2017 and pointing sites that having more display advertisements than content.

These sites thus give no useful information to users and their main motive is to make money online.

How to Improve Google Rank without Getting Penalized?

In this win-win situation, you just need to do SEO with limitations will surely bring you good results. You should worry only if you think that you are crossing your limits.

Let’s learn further in this article how to get a better Google search ranking for your blog posts without getting penalized.

This article has been broken into different topics so that it will easier to understand.

Analyze your Present Search Engine Ranking

First, know where you are now? Because you know you need to go top but also you should know from where to start so that to reach the top place.

You just need to know your current ranking position in Google and various other search engines. This is the first step even if your site is new.

Some rank checker tools are available that will help you in this process of assessing your present ranking position. I have covered those lists of rank checker tools in the previous article so deeply.

Use the SERPs rank checker tool to assess your present ranking for all your target keywords. Open the URL in the browser and enter your Primary Keyword and URL to assess.

For eg: I have used a keyword as “SEO Optimized Article writing”.

The next page will retrieve results from the Google search database. Similarly, you assess all pages that you want to rank for. Write down those details in an Excel sheet.

1. Analyze your Site Speed

Site speed is the most important ranking factor that Google search engine considers most.

If your site loads slower, then you will be losing more than 75% of your site visitors which also contributes to Google ranking losses. It will adversely affect your search position and also sales or leads.

If your site speed is the issue, no matter how you scored the best in On-page SEO was. The search bot will punish you whoever you are?

So first run a speed test and analyze the reports to find the areas of improvement to Improve Google Rank. No worries there are many tools available to help you in analyzing your web page speed.

Recommended tools for speed test:

    Google page speed insigWeb page

  • page test (dot) Org
  • GTMetrix
  • Pingdom web page speed test
  • KeyCDN network speed tester tool

I will show you an example. Go to tools.pingdom.com and enter your website URL. Next, choose your location of testing and press the TEST NOW button. Now, wait for the results to load.

seoblogging pingdom report

The results will show your performance grade, the total number of requests per connection, average page load time, and total page size after final loading.

This site scores 78 out of 100 which is really a good start. When performance grade is below 50 consider fixing areas causing increased page load time.

Your visitors won’t wait so long until your content loads fully, they will close immediately. SO make your site super-fast in loading.

2. Do a Health Check-up

Now if your site speed is in the nominal rate of acceptance then you need to do a health check-up, that checks your site using some available tools to check for any penalty such as,

If your site experienced a sudden drop from over a long period of consistency?

Does your webmaster account receive a message of manual action?

Do you think that your site is banned or de-indexed?

These tools will help you to know the root issues. If everything’s fine no problem or else you need to work on those areas to improve your quality score.

Some available tools were:

Reconsideration by measurable SEO

These tools will help you to know whether there is a penalty or not.

Here I showed an example with Pixel Groove website which shows everything is fine with SEO blogging tricks.

3. Find the Root Issue

So you have checked your site roughly and took all metrics need to start your engine from your present location. Now it’s time to find the root cause of the issue behind why you lost your ranking position in search results?

Organic Traffic: It is the biggest source of long-term natural traffic for any site and this is what all webmasters were targeting? Analyzing this area will almost show you the exact location of the failure.

To get the result, you need to login to your Google Analytics >> acquisition >> Overview to get the report. Select at least 90days before the date you saw a fall in traffic. If it is a sharp decline then there may be any manual action over your site.

Now you have to check your Google Search Console for any messages from the Google quality analysis team. Or, a gradual fall in traffic means an algorithm update where your site falls into it as a victim.

You have to make a conclusion at this point as well because you need to conclude whether it is a manual penalty or algorithm update penalty.

If it was a manual penalty then you have the fix the errors and correct the mistakes and apply for a reconsideration request. Or if it is an algorithm update penalty means once you corrected it will be automatically reflected in your traffic.

Google Webmaster Tools: Now use your Google Search Console account to take the list of keywords that your site was ranked for. You can get these results by logging into your search console account >> Links to your site >> search analytics.

Download the entire data in an excel sheet which will help you to create a checklist of areas to concentrate on.

Now you may have the list of keywords where your site already ranked for. Also, you may come to know the areas of improvement in your site to improve the Google Rank of your blog back to the position.

4. Diagnose the Penalty

Now you have a clean report on your search metrics and now it’s time to examine your site in detail whether there is any penalty still in action.

Because without knowing what is the penalty applied it’s a mere waste of time in the further promotion or building links to the site.

There are certain tools available that will help you to analyze your site. At the very first instant check your site for spam, low-quality backlinks as this is the most case that many sites got easily penalized.

Some of the tools are:

  • Majestic SEO
  • Ahrefs
  • Open site explorer

Let me explain this with an example:

Open a Majestic SEO website in your browser and type the URL you want to analyze. Choose the options Fresh Index and hit Enter.

Wait for a moment to get the results. Now you can see the list of backlinks for the URL, here you can see Trust Flow and Citation Flow which will give you the site authority.

competitive analysis

In general, avoid sites that having Trust Flow and Citation Flow lesser than 20 and consider those links as spam links or negative links.

You can use other tools as well to get the result of spam links or negative backlinks. Use at least two or more tools to get the exact list of bad links because to avoid accidental removal of Good links you created.

4.1. What are Bad Backlinks?

The links pointing to a website if seems purposely created to manipulate Page Rank or Site Rank in Google Search result pages or any means of practice including buying a lot of backlinks, involving in Link farming actions or reciprocal links from low-quality sites were all considered to be as Bad Backlinks.

Let’s continue our diagnosing process, using tools once you discovered a list of spammy links pointing to your site, it needs to be removed as early as possible to get your position back.

Removing pages in your site doesn’t solve this problem, but you need to remove those backlinks from where it was generated. This includes two processes, either trying manual link removal request or applying for Google Disavow.

4.1.1. Manual link removal request

Visit the source website and try to find the webmaster’s contact Email Address. Send a request email to the webmaster asking him to remove the particular link. Some webmasters will ask for money to remove the link.

You have no choice rather accepting the deal to remove. Else if you have outsourced link building to someone or an SEO company, better contact them to remove those links.

You can read this article which gives you more information on how to create a link removal request email and to stay safe from Google Penguin. It will take some time, but patience will pay you for sure.

4.1.2. Use Google Disavow Tool

Some webmasters won’t’ respond to your link removal request email or in some cases you cannot find the contact details of the site owner from where the unnatural links coming from.

What to do in this case? Google has a wonderful tool and it is called a Disavow tool.

Use this tool with care unless it may affect your site adversely. This tool is available in Google Search Console. There is a certain sequence of action you need to do in this process and I will explain this further.

You need to prepare a list of disavowing links in a notepad. The above I recommended will help you with this process. Applying to disavow does not mean that Google will remove those backlinks. It is just a piece of authorization to Google that says do not consider those sites in this list when assessing your site quality.

Once you prepared the list, just upload the notepad file via the submit link.

The disavowing process will take some time, but still, you need to find all ways to remove those links manually. Also, monitor your backlinks from now every day so as you may be alerted when found new bad backlinks.

5. Keyword Research

So, you have taken all measures to get rid of unnatural bad spam backlinks to your site. Now it’s time to rebuild your authority again using the same on-page and off-page SEO techniques.

But this time, remember Quality speaks louder than Quantity.

Now, you have the list of keywords already your site ranked for which has been taken since recently during your analysis.

You can still use the same keyword and update the existing article with more in-depth information, and lengthy articles.

Probably this works up to a little extent because of market changes and updates by itself. You need to do a new keyword research process to write more quality articles to get your rankings back.

There are six steps in this process which I have explained in my other article and this time you can use that information included in this process.

Your site may lose its ranking due to not only because of any penalty actions but also it’s because of your inefficiency in competing with your competitor sites.

Recently any of your competitors have done a great thing which you haven’t have risen to their ranking. So, before making keyword research you should first analyze your competitor and list them.

Run through their site to spy on the areas of their distinction which gave them better Google ranking. There are many aspects including quality of the content, the length of the article, presentation, and targeted visitors, etc.

After this, prepare the list of keywords they ranked for and also find their source of backlinks and marketing strategy. Implement the same to drive some positive results.

Doing proper keyword research and writing quality lengthy articles will get your better results out there.

Writing an article is not just loading tons of information on one page as your site visitors will get bored enough and may leave your page sooner.

Article writing is an ART that should express your views and thoughts that should be unique among others to stand out from the crowd. Visitors are always fond of reading new things and Search Engines will love that too.

Before writing an article target your focus keyword and use synonymical words, sprinkle your focus keyword in your entire article that should freely be flowing naturally.

Keywords are tough important but anything too much is not good for health. Avoid Keyword Stuffing, as it will again lead to Panda Penalty.

Make a cheat sheet and prepare a work plan to promote your blog pages evenly given equal importance to all pages with respective to their keywords.

Because this will give your site an even flow of link juice and helps to build your domain authority.

Domain authority and page authority from MOZ will also be one of the Google Ranking Factor.

6. Build the Right Quality Backlinks

So, you have all set to push your site back to the top. But do it properly and use only White Hat SEO techniques following Google Webmaster Guidelines.
